Literature Text

Sleep, my darling, Davy boy
Sleep, my precious, eager toy
Spend one night of raptured joy
And give yourself to me

Morn comes fast, you must away
On your ship so proud and gay
Must you go, oh can't you stay,
Stay and comfort me

Ride the billow! Reap the wave!
Waste the souls that you can't enslave!
Drive the drowned men, stout and brave
That fell 'fore raging sea!

Call the monster from the deep!
Slice the roaring breaker steep!
Hear the shore-bound widows weep
That love no more shall see!

Cruise the dark and damning waste!
Give the drowned their deathly taste!
Grasp them, hold them, then make haste
And bring their souls to me!

But you
Shall not
Find me
There

Sink and
Howl and
Find des-
pair

Ride, my darling, burning child
Cross the deep, alone and wild
Ever hated and reviled
The Man who loved the Sea
The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise does have some things going for it--the first and third films, and the first twenty minutes of the fourth one. Johnny Depp's randomness. Geoffrey Rush's West Country accent. The wedding. The explosions. The lines that you never, ever thought you'd hear in a pirate film. And the soundtrack.

Oh my Cadance, the soundtrack.

Subjectively the best theme of the bunch, in my opinion, is Davy Jones's. It works both as a soothing, poignant lover's tune and as a raging rollercoaster rampage of something musicky beginning with r (and I was a chorister for eight years ... sheesh,) and actually adds to his character in a way that acting, makeup and CGI could never achieve.

As some will be able to tell you, lyricless film scores and I tend to react impressively. So here you have my lyrics to the Davy Jones theme, which can be found easily on YouTube. Given what I've already said, I don't think there should be too many problems interpreting it, so let's go ahead with the credits!

The Davy Jones theme was written by Hans Zimmer. Davy Jones, Calypso and the whole Pirates of the Caribbean franchise belong to Disney. The above lyrics are by Scarf Ace, who has made no profit off them whatsoever.
