This is a piece with quite a bit of history. Back in late 2014, I was looking around the basement of my local church after a Sunday school session, and my eye fell on a sheet of music with the title "Zünd' die Kerze an" ("Light the candle"). However, my brain processed the word "Kerze" as "Katze", resulting in the title of this piece, which roughly translates to "Set Fire to the Cat". I was mildly amused.
So, in fact, was my girlfriend, and we built up a gag whereby I randomly sing the words "zünd' die Katze an" to the tune of "Geronimo", by Sheppard.
You know me. It just had to get an extended version.
I realize that my English-speaking watchers aren't going to get much out of this, and I am sorry. But I can tell you what the lyrics are about - a bored guy setting fire to his cat. Yes, it is about as worth listening to as it sounds, and I realized half-way through that I would have to insert some critical lyrics in the bridge to make sure that everyone understands that I do not condone or practise animal abuse, and this piece is merely meant to be a comment on the phenomenon. Let's see how many people miss that passage and lambaste me in the comments ...
Seriously, though, I feel incredibly privileged to be writing lyrics for someone whom I love, and who loves me. Thank you, mia cara. This is just for you.
